The species is dedicated to the late Wolfgang Grell, member of the DKG (German Killifish Association); a talented killifish collector, breeder, and photographer who only one year before his death in May 2001, directed Eberl's attention to the probable existence of an unknown species in the area east of Sindara (Ref. 94461).
